Control strategies for transport networks under demand uncertainty

چکیده
Abstract In this article, we consider transport networks with uncertain demands. Network dynamics are given by linear hyperbolic partial differential equations and suitable coupling conditions, while demands incorporated as solutions to stochastic equations. For the demand satisfaction, solve a constrained optimal control problem. Controls in terms of network inputs then calculated explicitly for different assumptions. Numerical simulations performed underline theoretical results.

Optimal Capacity Expansion Strategies under Demand Uncertainty
This paper presents a novel approach to compute optimal machine, shop oor and shell space expansion times under uncertain customer demand. It considers multiple machine types and allows for positive lead times for each type. Demand is assumed to be nondecreasing in a \weak" sense. A polynomial time algorithm (FIFEX) is developed and shown to be eeective and eecient with an example from the Semi...
متن کاملCapacity Investment Under Postponement Strategies, Market Competition, and Demand Uncertainty
We provide a comprehensive analysis of capacity investment decisions in duopoly models with demand uncertainty. Firms make capacity investment, production, delivery and pricing decisions. Capacity investment decisions are always made ex-ante demand whereas price decisions always ex-post. The interplay between the timing of demand information and the decision of production and delivery endows fi...
متن کاملMulti-resource investment strategies: Operational hedging under demand uncertainty
Consider a ®rm that markets multiple products, each manufactured using several resources representing various types of capital and labor, and a linear production technology. The ®rm faces uncertain product demand and has the option to dynamically readjust its resource investment levels, thereby changing the capacities of its linear manufacturing process. The cost to adjust a resource level eith...
متن کاملStochastic Model Predictive Control for Water Transport Networks with Demand Forecast Uncertainty
Two formulations of the stochastic model predictive control (SMPC) problem for the control of large-scale drinking water networks are presented in this chapter. The first approach, named chance-constrained MPC, makes use of the assumption that the uncertain future water demands follows some known continuous probability distribution while at the same time certain risk (probability) for the state...
